So to upgrade my iPhone to IOS 5 I decided to go to the pub, have a nice meal and a pint of cider. Great idea you say. But, due to the cider I unplugged my iPhone before it had finished syncing the apps. No problem, I thought I’ll just sync it in the morning. Some of the apps were missing some would not work when I touched them.
Morning comes, upgrade iPad…and guess what… all my apps are working, seems little iPhone synced itself with the cloud and fixed itself…scary wonderful technology.
Well done Apple. Steve would be proud because I know I am.
I think their servers are suffering, 16 hours on a broad band line for the iPhone version 53 minutes though for the iPad version ….
Apple, you should have started the update WHILE THE USA WAS ASLEEP! silly.
Ok some of us have been sitting in iTunes and hitting Check for Update all day…
I just wanted to pay tribute to Steve Jobs for his incredible contribution to IT on this Blog. I look forward to the future but Steve will be a sad loss to all of us who use Apple stuff and a few who don’t.
TRAGEDY! (well actually it wasn’t)
My Macbook Pro took a dislike to an app I installed (geektools!) and went into a slow down mode I’ve never known, to the point the only option was to restore my Time Machine backup.
I keep a 200gb drive plugged in via USB as Time Machine allows me to restore individual files. But doing a whole restore was a completely different thing.
a. Boot Computer and Hold Down CONTROL
b. Choose Recovery (you’ll see your normal drive and the recovery option)
c. Choose Recover from Time Machine….
Drink tea and wait 2 hours.
After then, rebooted and everything was restored.
Two posts in one!
As an Apple developer I’ve been running Lion for some time now and I have to say it’s Awesome. The new gestures and swiping make life much easier, the fast desktop switching, Launchpad.
If you have a PC, sell it and get a Mac with Lion! IF you have a Mac, time to upgrade!
Funnily enough the one thing that puzzles me is that there is not much noise being made by Apple about it, they are either incredibly humble or too busy suing HTC.
The distance between Windows and Mac OSX is huge in my view, for example, I had a white Macbook, I know BAD choice, they are a nightmare to keep clean, and due to my cleanliness and scrubbing I broke it (too much Screen Cleaner), so I upgraded to a MacBook pro, second hand one, but still lovely, took my fast 500gb drive out of MacBook, Plug into MacBook pro and it booted. Not only did it boot but all my stuff was there and just worked, no inputting long registration numbers or phoning people. Excellent.
Try that with Windows.
The Macbook Pro I bought was a 2009 machine! 2009! You buy a 2009 Windows Laptop it’s probably not going to run that great, probably won’t run Windows 7. My Macbook Pro FLIES, it’s like a new machine, it runs Second Life like a dream, PKR all my programming environments, Netbeans, IntelliJIdea, Xcode, the lot with ease.
Then I put Lion on it and the thing is a dream! How did I survive without it?
Is my iPad redundant?
My iPad though has been naturally getting less use, that’s only because of the novelty of a new system, however I still have my iPad next to me at work, I still read The Times iPad edition it’s rich and lovely, I still use my iPad as my guitar effects, read my Bible on it, it’s still VERY useful. Even with an iPhone.
On ZDNet could have serious implications for HTC and the Android market in the USA!
